ABC’s The Bachelor Looking for Candidate to ‘Sail’ Into Limelight

The ABC network’s popular series "The Bachelor" is searching for America's most eligible man and they’re turning to the yachting community to find him!

Producers are searching for men who are ambitious, charming and successful and who are looking to find love. The ideal candidate is an attractive, single, 28-35 year-old accomplished CEO, Architect, Lawyer, Entrepreneur or Businessman. The yachting community matches this demographic perfectly.

According the most recent results on the RegattaDates.com sailing poll, 75% of respondents are male, 30% are age 20-40, 48% own their own boat, 16% earn over $150,000 per year, 75% are from the USA and 29% are single. why aren't they looking for short, fat married guys?

Come on, guys. This is our chance to get some major TV exposure for catamarans. It's going to be in an exotic, tropical location, probably on the water. You can make sure they write a bunch of scenes with you taking those beautiful girls out for rides on a beach cat.

Think of it as your duty to your sport.

I would do it, but sadly I dont fall into the majority of those percentages

I am SO on this! A few tweaks first - some hair plugs to mask the baldness, plastic surgery to hide the age, a little lipo for the spare tire. I'll make a deal with my wife that after all the fame and fortune have been acquired, I'll dump the TV other half and re-marry her.

All I need is the job part. I didn't see aerospace computer stuff listed in the job specs, and I'm short of the dollar amount. Anybody got an open CEO spot for me? Anybody? Come on, this is our chance!

How about sponsorship?

I wanted to have a mid life crisis but my wife told me I couldn't afford a red Corvette.

I know this fellow Bubba Whartz, who is an unmarried yachtsman, meaning that he owns a yacht-appearing floating object (ferro-cement). Contact him through Morgan Steinmetz, Southwinds magazine to have him send in an application.

In my experience these guys are loaded with desperate women who had their fill of "boys" and who can smell "MONEY !" from miles away. Sometimes women will degrade themselfs to unimaginable levels just to enhance their chances.

Did I just wrote down "sometimes" ?


As if these guys need a TV program to find a wife ! Were is the sport in that ?


But I do see problems in having a catamaran-guy over a yacht-guy. Imagine the guy going :"WOW ! look at those lines, what a beauty ! I want her"

And have the camera filming the guy falling to his knees stroking an A-cat catamaran that just happens to be sitting there on the beach while totally forgetting about the blond knocker that was beside him just seconds ago.

Might make for some entertaining firework though. The idea was to spend money on the women, not the boats.

Maybe that is where we cat sailors went wrong ? Hummm.

BTW, what's their deal? No scientists or engineers? ABC may think CEO, architects, lawyers or businessmen are attractive, but REAL wimmen want GEEKS.

I can see it now. A catamaran skipper is chosen as the bachelor. In the first scene where he meets the potential brides, the first words out of his mouth are, "What's are your names, how much do you weigh?"

Right questions. Wrong order. The first 5 words I said to my wife Judy were "How much do you weigh?". After that we exchanged names.

Jamie, you have to chat them up before moving in for the kill. The name/weight sequence is how I met my wife. Of course, she had no idea what a catamaran was when I met her.

If it F*cks, floats or flys - rent it.

Wow Mary where did those numbers come from? Did any one check because although I believe the 75 % men the rest is BS. If your really into sailing your not into work, or not anymore. 150 K at that age, possible but not common.

Good luck to the show, It will be intresting to see if they do a background check on the individuals to ensure the "numbers" match up.

That demographics survey does not have anything to do with the Bachelor search. ABC just wants somebody who is handsome, charming, reasonably intelligent and reasonably successful (not homeless).

I think "Inside Yachting" just included that survey as a link in their article to show that a high percentage of sailors are intelligent and successful and to show that this is a good group to search for an eligible bachelor.

But I think handsome and charming are probably the primary requisites to get accepted by ABC.

well my crew and i weigh 285 on a h16 imagine that?! so i definitely am not shopping around, i just looked at a bassproshop flyer and a typical fishing boat costs 15-30 plus, so maybe we aren't upscale enough for that crowd. tho i have seen nigel with his beautiful complement of motorhome, box trailer full of spare hulls, parts etc and charming etcetera one of the beauties of our sport is if we love it we can find a way
