Hi all,

I haven't dissapeared off the water, just the internet. Major computer problems combined with work commitments have stopped me posting for the last few weeks.

Have had some good racing at Easter in particular. I raced at LochSport against 3 F18's, Taipan sloop with spinnaker and Mossie cat with spinnaker along with other assorted cats.

First race about 15-18kts, 3 laps took less than 1 hour. F18 Capricorn cleared away from start to win first over the line and on Yardstick, F16 "Altered" finished second over the line and on Yardstick, one of the F18 Tigers and the Mossie had a swim so didn't figure. Taipan came back from a bad start to finish third ahead of both Tigers.

Second race about 10 to 15 kts, 5 laps, long legs duration about 2 hrs. . F16 "Altered" had bad start last off the line, had the timing wrong. F18 Capricorn lead again with Taipan next followed by Tigers with the Mossie not far off. Altered worked its way past all but the Capricorn, actualy closing the gap in the last laps to finish close enough to beat the Capricorn on Yardstick with only a one point difference. Did some good racing with the Taipan it took me a few laps to get past and I was only safe when they capsized. It is there first season on the Taipan so they are learning quickly. Mossie did well without a capsize this race he won on Yardstick with Altered second.

Will be racing again this weekend. Hopefully kicking F18 butt again.

yes it was Peter Nikitin, he cleaned up at Yarrawonga last weekend as well from the sounds of things.

Is 'Altered' a Taipan, or your own creation. Hard to tell from the small picture and the name suggests otherwise.
I'm in the middle of building my own Taipan. I'm always interested in new ideas from these forums, the taipan forum seems a bit quiet at the moment, and you can't post photos.

Hi Matt,

no "Altered" is not a Taipan, it is a altered A class. Just got rid of the bits off the ends that a F16 doesn't need and added a spinnaker.

If you need any info you are welcome to ask here any time there are lots of Taipan sailors that visit and I will help if I can. If you want to look at "Altered" for ideas you can do a search on this Forum for Altered or F16 oneup which was one of my early threads as I remember, you should find lots of photo's and text. What state are you in?

South West Victoria, will probably sail at Colac Yacht Club which is about an hour away (our lake is as dry as a chip) and again this year it doesn't look like changing. I hope to have my boat finished june/july so I'll be ready well in time for next season, I've taken a much longer than expected break from sailing because of water issues, but I'm keen to start again.
