There is no reason this site is not being used. There are plenty of cat sailors in our area. There are probably plenty of you who check this site out. This site is here for our use. Come on, will someone help me kick start this dog. There are PLENTY of things WE can share.

Thanks
Dave

I agree (see previous post).
Anyway, I have a Hobie 18 Magnum, yellow with Tequilla Sunrise sails. I bought it in March after 20+ years of longing and borrowing. Unfortuneatly I still have not yet had it in the water due to the work needed on it and my very limited budget. It's getting closer, though and I hope to have it in the water in the next 4-6 weeks. The big things I still need are a wing tramp, new righting line, life vests, and numerous spare parts. I also need to get at a radio and a righting bag and pole for increased safety. We usually go down to the Dunedin Causway at least one of the weekend days, the kids swim, the wife tans, and I go check out the cats. Can't wait to get back sailing!

Lance
Hobie 18 Magnum
St. Petersburg FL

I noticed this board was pretty quiet. I've got an 80ish Prindle 16 with baby blue sails (selected by a previous owner). I bought it from Kevin Gil -- believe he races at David Island.
Broke the boom the weekend after Father's Day and haven't had it out since I spliced it. Gotta scrape together the pennies to buy a "new" boom.

I get out to Dunedin pretty often if for no other reason than to see whose out there. Haven't had a chance to meet very many cat sailors but have seen the boats.

Tides have sucked lately in regards to my schedule. Gonna see if I can't fix that Saturday. If I can get a tide I may go to Dunedin otherwise will probably go to the Clearwater Sailing Center. They've got a summer (casual) series going and would like to get more boats out -- Barb and Chip Short store their Inter20 there and Robbie Daniels shows up periodically with the Tornadoe and possibly the Martrom 20. Skipper's meeting is usually about 1-2 and then they go around the bouys about 3 or so depending on the wind.

Sorry, meant Davis Island -- sheesh!

Windjammers of Clearwater Sailing Club (meets at Clearwater Sailing Center on Sand Key) is trying to get some things going and catamarans were specifically mentioned. We've got a good launch site and if we work something out with the harbormaster we could probably launch at the center and beach just north of the ramps on the public beach.

I'll post anything I find out about that.

At a recent meeting someone commented that it'd be nice if we could get some cats out off Clearwater Beach around Pier 60 and get some of the beach goers interested in sailing. Again, I'll post here when I get more info.

Next time you are sailing at Dunedin Csy (at low tide), depending on the wind direction, there are a number of "alleys" to sail in. Ask any of the regular sailors, of which I am one, and we will fill you in. Of course, that is if we are not already sailing in the Gulf.
See you around. We have a few long distance races coming. I, or someone else will get the info on the forum.
Sailingfool

I'm slowly finding the channels and alleys. I've only had my Prindle 16 a few months and am still getting used to the quirks of a beach cat. Ducking the power boats in the channel is interesting and crossing the channel to Caldesi Island can get real exciting on the weekends!

I like Dunedin Causeway because it's close to the house, cheap launching (hey it's a beach!), and lots of cats and dinghies are usually around.

I'm hoping to get out Saturday and/or maybe Sunday afternoon and see if my spliced boom will hold up until I can buy another. I've already got a 2x4 cut down as a spare! My boat looks like something out of Waterworld already but I still have fun.

So if you see a yellow hulled Prindle 16 with baby blue sails and a strange looking boom in the vicinity of a red Ford Explorer it'll most likely be me.

You might want to look in the classified section on this site for your boom. I noticed that someone was parting out a Prindle 16, and it is in Florida. Worth a shot.
Dave
catsailorp19MX

Unfortunately everyone wants $150 for the booms. If I had $150 spare I'd already have one. Something about food, mortgage, 2nd son starting college, etc. always seems to get in the way :-)

I'll get it replaced but it'll probably be during the winter when everyone is cleaning out their garage.
