I know they've made EPO rudders, which are obviously lighter and stronger, but did they ever make "EPO" daggers for the hobie 18? I have a set of black, extremely light daggers that came with my 1999 Hobie 18sx. I've been around normal 18 daggers a fair amount, and these are half the weight. Any ideas? (Matt Miller?)

I've never heard of any but I have noticed that some later models seem to have lighter boards.

Yup! Dave is right! I'd wear lead lined gloves with those puppies!

The only change in daggerboard construction was to use a black gel coat on them. No special core. We went away from that pretty quick. Black is NOT good unless the core is more stable. These would blow up like balloons, chips and cracks were very noticeable.

There are definitely some lightweight boards around. I had 2 sets with my previous 18 (1999 worlds boat in Aust). The "fast" boards were approx 2/3 the weight of the heavy ones. Any clues???

I don't recall, but I would bet they are aftermarket boards if very different from other stock boards. I have never heard of it here.
