Wave Hooter Installation

Here is a general look at the Hooter hardware after being installed.

Two eyelets are mounted on each side of the pole at midpoint. They should be located ??? Inches back from the end of the pole.

Two eyelets are mounted at the end of the pole -- one on top and one on the bottom and through bolted.

Here are a couple of pix of the general layout.

Using the ???? line, tie the cables to bow eyelet. The line will creep somewhat and may have to be retightened several times after being under load.

The small ??????????? line goes from the furler drum to a single bullet block (one without a swivel) and is tied back to the shackle under the furler.

Tie the ???? line to the non-swiveling bullet block and lead it back to the main beam where the cleat is located.

The furler cleat should be mounted on the main beam at a convenient location. Your particular cleat is not the same as the one shown, but similar

Using the large backing washers inside the hull, install the eyelets for the Sheet blocks. If they are mounted to far inboard, the sheet will interfere with the helm when sailing close hauled.

There are two type of Halyard Cleats. This is the Harken type. If you need more purchase to tighten the luff of Hooter, run the halyard through the standard horn cleat that on the side of the mast that comes with a Wave, back up to however high you can reach. Then at that point tie a wagoneers hitch. Run the halyard through the hitch and back through the Harken cleat. The same thing can be done with the other system below.

This is the halyard cleat and should be mounted with self tapping screws to the side of the mast and the halyard is run through it and down to the main beam and through the flip flop block.

Mount the Flipflop Block. The halyard after running through the cleat runs through the Flipflop.

When furling, be sure to have enough line on the furler drum so the Hooter will furl like this. Also, that will get most of the Hooter sheet off the deck as well. By the way, we have supplied more Hooter sheet than you need, but that way you can cut it to whatever length best suits you.
