Unfortunately the author of this article in in bed with the oil companies (surprise!!). Obviously Wikipedia can be, lets say inaccurate at times, it also raises some concerns with the credibility and objectivity as an expert.
"A 2007 Newsweek cover story on climate change denial reported that: "In April 1998 a dozen people from the denial machine — including the Marshall Institute, Fred Singer's group and Exxon — met at the American Petroleum Institute's Washington headquarters. They proposed a $5 million campaign, according to a leaked eight-page memo, to convince the public that the science of global warming is riddled with controversy and uncertainty." The plan was reportedly aimed at "raising questions about and undercutting the 'prevailing scientific wisdom'" on climate change. According to Newsweek, the plan was leaked to the press and therefore was never implemented.[25]"
I suppose this isn't the appropriate forum fall all this, but then again, if we don't act as stewards for the environment we all use (for sailing), then who will?
I just find is amazing that given all of the hard working, honest scientists that are working on the climate change issue around the world, it only takes a few with extreme views and ulterior motives to convince half a nation that there is some conspiracy against the poor suffering oil companies and big business.
