"I am just aware of problems of being a girl on the boy's playground because of past experiences in the kayaking community. I intend to be respectful of that."
I know exactly where you’re coming from. Prior to our meeting, my wife and I were both divorced after long term marriages. She had to deal with the “friend boys” who were married men she would have as friends as opposed to a boy friend, and I had to deal with the “friend girls” wives of friends who I would sail/windsurf or kayak with. It’s a sticky situation, especially when you hit it off with some one “sports wise” and your “buds” wife or husband starts feeling threatened.
Best advice is keep an eye out for a single guy that you can share the experiences with…again I don’t know how it is in your area…but I can’t overstate how many great guys are out there looking for a woman that loves the water. My wife & I kayak together, sail together, and fish together (her favorite)…the best part is she thinks/reasons like a man!..LOL …at the same time she is all woman, she can primp with the best of them and I don’t know if you could hide that fact she is a woman with 3 rolls of duct tape…LOL…When you have the right person to share things with, every good experience is magnified…life is soooo easy…
