You've already learned the most important part - to have fun. Keep your sights on that and all the rest will follow (and if it doesn't - who cares?).
I went through a phase when I had to sail well in order to have fun - and a lot of the time, I didn't accomplish either one. At some point though, I made a conscious decision to have fun and ignore my standings. Not only did I enjoy the sport much more, but my sailing improved as well.
