Well, I guess I'm not too old to learn something new. I always thought rope was rope unless it was being used for some purpose on a boat, in which case it is a line. <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />

But you are right, it is also referred to as line when put to other uses. But even so, I think it is still just plain rope when there is a pile of it in the back of my car doing nothing.
