I suspect that the top of my mast is not sealed properly. I store my mast with the sail track facing up. There is a small amount of water that collects inside the mast after it rains. My questions are:

After I get the mast cap off what is the best method to seal the top of the mast?
Are there any known issues with removing the mast cap?

David Ingram
I-20

Dave
I had the same problem. I just poped off the mast cap. There are two water barriers inside. I cut out the upper one with a knife to get at the lower one. Once I had the lower barrier in sight I put on the gloves and slaped on the 5200. I put the upper barrier back and 5200 that. I haven't had a problem since.

Have you done a leak test to identify the problem spot.

What I did was drill out a mast base rivit.

Wash and soaped up my mast real good.

Then blew air into the mast with a shop vac.

While air is being blown in continue drenching all the potential points with a soapy spoonge. Any bubbles need attention.

What I found was my mast was leaking at the diamond wire tang through bolt at the top of the mast. Apply silicone then immediately tighten the diamond wires.

Mark
Inter 20 no. 274
Houston, TX
