1. The lines will not affect the sail being hoisted. The grove is big. You need to drill two holes on each side of the track. You put the line in one hole and pull it out the other. The make a stopper knot so the knot is not in the track, but on the side of the mast. Drill the holes close to the back of the luff groove, but DO NOT drill into the mast and unseal it.
2. I used the identical plunger arrangement that wouter used and just drilled a hole in the main beam casting. Works great.
My one tip would be the only mistake I made was that I did not determine the placement of the halyard block correctly. My sail was designed to have a 1 foot tail between the sail and the block. I did not know that. Set the block so when fully hoisted you can grab the luff and twist you hand 90 degrees.
