You may be interested in knowing that we raced International 14 dinghies on Huntington Lake in the late 19 50's or early 1960's. They are a development class still popular with the single hull crowd. The trapeze was a radical new development popular at the time. A guy named Carter Pyle brought an interesting contraption to one regatta. It was the P-cat.

I remember being amazed one could have a drink of water by just dipping in a cup.

Regards
Chet

Chet,

One of the really cool things about racing at Huntington is the opportunity to hear the more seasoned sailors tell their tales of the bygone days... I've seen black and white photo's from the 60's of the I14's screaming down wind with their symmetrical spins and no wires.
You'll be interested to know that the I14's still race at Huntington each season and that they are now carbon nomex have lifting foils, plane upwind and down in just above a whisper of wind , canting centerboards, two wires, over 550 sq. ft. of sail and a fleet as tough and deep as any you can name! A new B5 will cost ya a bit over 30k - not including the drysuit...Doc and I shared a start with the I14's the past two seasons and we agreed that they are magnificently fast!

Best To You,

Paul

...and after peeling off our wetsuits, grabbing a bite and a drink, slopping on some more sunscreen, hitting the men's room and arguing for awhile about that mess in the Middle East- Doc and i pulled our "off the shelf" F16's to the side and helped the first couple skiffs to finish onto the beach and their dollies...

Indeed. Of course, nothing we can do or say can convince the other 200 dinghy sailors at the event that we finished the race and our lunch before the I14s <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif" alt="" />
